What Is PRP Therapy?
PRP or platelet-rich plasma is a substance that is derived from your own blood and promotes healing when injected into areas that need healing. Plasma is a component of the blood that contains proteins that support cell growth. PRP has a more concentrated amount of growth factors and therefore stimulates your body to increase the growth of new cells. This has great healing potential in treating hair loss, injured tendons, and ligaments, muscles, joints, and skin.
PRP therapy begins with a physician drawing your own blood and then spinning in a centrifuge to separate out the various components. The PRP is then prepared to be injected into the area which needs to be treated. Once platelets are in the area being treated, they break down and release growth factors that help cells repair and renew. This triggers your body’s healing process.
What PRP Therapies Are Offered At Skinatomy Laser Clinic?
The Vampire Facial
A Vampire Facial is one procedure that involves using PRP to improve the skin on your face. In a facial, the platelets contain proteins and growth factors that will stimulate collagen production. Collagen helps to provide elasticity to the skin as well as helping to restore volume. This gives the skin a more healthy, youthful look. In a Vampire Facial treatment, the platelet-rich liquid will be topically applied to your face during and after micro-needling.
Microneedling is a treatment for fine lines and wrinkles that stimulates the production of collagen and elastin. During microneedling, a hand-held device is applied to your skin. This device contains a number of microneedles that will create tiny, controlled “tunnels” in the skin. Once this is done, your body will take over in order to heal your skin and will produce new collagen and elastin to heal and fill in those spots. The addition of your body’s own plasma-rich-platelets will further speed the healing process by supplying additional growth factors to your skin.
PRP Hair Restoration
PRP Hair Restoration is another available procedure that uses your body’s own platelets to trigger hair regrowth. These growth factors and proteins stimulate cellular repair and rejuvenation. Collagen production is stimulated as well as the formation of new blood vessels. The high concentrations of platelets in plasma cells help promote hair growth by prolonging the growing phase of the hair cycle. The plasma is combined with growth-activating serums and injected into the scalp where hair loss has occurred. Patients usually receive injections monthly for three months, then have follow-up treatments every three or four months for two years. Most patients see decreased hair shedding, followed by regrowth, and then increased hair length.
