Radiesse is a dermal filler composed of calcium hydroxylapatite, which is similar to the material of bone. It has a thicker consistency and works to fill in areas where there is a lack of volume and provides a scaffold to stimulate collagen growth. Radiesse is a biostimulator, which means it encourages your body to produce collagen over time, helping improve stretch marks and even minimize cellulite. After Radiesse is fully flushed out from your system, your body will have made and will continue to make collagen in the treated area.
Sculptra is a poly-L-lactic acid biostimulant which means that when injected it works to kick start your body’s natural collagen production. Sculptra is injected into areas such as hip dips to help encourage collagen production which in turn overtime produces a visible volume improvement in the treated area.
The main difference between Radiesse and Sculptra is that Radiesse is not just a collagen stimulant – it adds direct volume as a filler would as well. This means that results from Radiesse are seen sooner as the viscosity is thicker. Radiesse on average lasts 12- 15 months while Sculptra on average lasts 24 months.
You’re a good candidate for a Sculptra® or Radiesse® butt lift if you don’t have a lot of fat for a fat grafting butt lift, but you’d still like a more augmented appearance. You should be a healthy candidate with realistic expectations for this procedure.
The treatment takes about 60 minutes to perform with Sculptra® or Radiesse®.
The treatments are provided in one-month intervals so a client can expect to see gradual improvements over time. The results look natural and subtle so you won’t have to explain to others a dramatic, overnight transformation in your appearance. Most patients begin to notice a change after the first or second session.
Radiesse® results can last up to 12 months. Sculptra® results can last up to 24 months. Maintenance treatments can keep results lasting much longer.
There’s no downtime associated with the procedure; however, you may notice slight swelling and bruising at the treatment site. These side effects usually disappear within the first week after treatment.

Radiesse is an injectable dermal filler commonly used to minimize moderate to severe wrinkles and folds on the face and restore volume to the back of the hands. Interestingly, it also effectively adds volume and contour to saggy or flat buttocks. The active ingredient in Radiesse is biocompatible calcium hydroxylapatite, a synthetic substance. When injected into the skin on the buttocks, the filler stimulates the production of collagen, which gives the skin its elasticity and strength. The treatment has both an initial and progressive effect on the skin, with results lasting anywhere from 2 to 5 years.

A local anesthetic may be applied during the procedure, and the filler is injected under the skin using either a needle or a cannula. After the injections, patients can immediately drive and return to their usual activities. Bruising, soreness, and redness are common side effects, which typically subside within a week. Some patients may require up to three Radiesse treatments spaced three to four months apart to achieve the desired effect.
Before the procedure, patients should avoid certain foods and supplements that can prolong bleeding to help minimize bruising and swelling. Arnica supplements can also be taken before the injection to speed up fading of bruises. Patients on blood thinners should consult with their prescribing provider regarding stopping and restarting these medications before and after the procedure.
Post-procedure, patients should avoid strenuous exercise and heavy lifting for 24-48 hours to minimize swelling and bruising. A small bag of ice can gently ice the area for 20 minutes on and off for 24-48 hours. Tylenol can relieve post-injection pain, while NSAIDs such as Motrin and ibuprofen should be avoided. Asymmetry, bumps, and nodules may occur but usually resolve with time. Any concerning symptoms, such as increasing pain, discoloration, or scabs, should be reported to the physician immediately.
