How Does CoolSculpting Work to Nonsurgically Reduce Fat?

Are you one of a large number of people who were taught that “If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is?” You are not alone. With the increasing popularity of CoolSculpting more and more people are asking questions because it sounds too easy. Most people are used to being taught that they can only get rid of fat through extensive diet and exercise and they are not completely wrong. But CoolSculpting does work to reduce fat!

First Things First

Before we answer how CoolSculpting reduces fat, we want to share a few important facts.

1. Weight loss and Fat Reduction are two different things. When a person gains weight, their fat cells get larger. When they lose weight, their fat cells shrink. During weight loss, the number of fat cells you have stays constant, they just change in size. Diet and exercise are the key way that people lose weight. Fat reduction is different. In fat reduction, fat cells are removed from the body. Once removed, the fat cells do not return, nor do the remaining fat cells divide to make more fat cells. CoolSculpting is a non-invasive way to reduce fat while liposuction is a common surgical way to reduce fat.

2. CoolSculpting is intended to help a person who is already nearing their fitness objectives to rid themselves of stubborn fat which is not responding to diet and exercise. This will ensure that the patient sees their best results. After CoolSculpting, patients are also encouraged to maintain a healthy diet and exercise routine to maintain these results.

What Is CoolSculpting and How Does It Work?

CoolSculpting is an incredible technology that crystallizes fat cells which are then flushed away over time by the body’s own metabolic processes. With Coolsculpting, a typical treatment lasts about one hour per treatment area. During the treatment, a technician places a gel pad over the area to be treated to act as a barrier between your body and the CoolSculpting device. Next, the device is cooled to its appropriate temperature and placed on the gel pad. The fat underneath the pad freezes, leaving the surrounding organs, nerves or tissue unharmed because they freeze at a much lower temperature than the fat cells. The CoolSculpting procedure is closely monitored during the treatment making it both safe and effective. Once the fat cells have been frozen, they will die and be consumed by regular cells and then they are eliminated from the body. CoolSculpting can give a patient 20-25% reduction in the appearance of the area that was treated. Results can begin to see results in as little as four weeks after the first treatment with full results being visible in 3-6 months. The average person needs two to three treatments to achieve their ideal results.
